Hello,
I would like to start by introducing myself. I am just another local adolescent
that just so happens to be extremely fond of Shakespeare. Just to clarify, I am
not necessarily deeply enchanted or allured by all of William Shakespeare's
works, I would just prefer to occupy myself with his works over any other poem,
novel, or play handed to me. To be completely candid, I'm not even that big of
a reader. It is not that I generally dread reading, but more of in my free time,
that is something that you would more than likely find me not doing. I'm
actually almost positive that if you are ever to catch me reading, it is almost
always because I have no choice but to for a class requirement. Fortunately, in
my previous years of English and Literature courses, I have encountered and
have been enlightened by several of many Shakespearean works. Throughout my previous school years, I also
encountered other novels that I overall appreciated, such as: Their Eyes Were Watching God, To Kill a Mockingbird,
Lord of The Flies, Catcher in the Rye, Fahrenheit 451, and Anthem. So, if
I’m not reading anything by William Shakespeare, I am most likely reading
anything by the author of the previous books because they have peaked my
interest. No exceptions. I should probably also mention, I am kind of a picky
reader. If I am going to read anything, it is going to be by an author that I
am familiar with. If not, I become completely incapable of reading. But hey, if
you stay tuned, you know, you’ll probably find out a lot more about the
Shakespearean Taj!
Hey! I liked your introduction a lot and I think you’re one of the first people I’ve met that likes Shakespeare, as well. I love him too! He’s definitely one of my favorite authors/playwrights and I really enjoy reading works of Old English. Some of my favorite plays of his include A Midsummer Night’s Dream (which is probably my all-time favorite of his), Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet. I’ve noticed that in most cases, whenever I mention Shakespeare the majority of people will let out an exasperated sigh or an “ugh” but I am fascinated by his works. Some Shakespearean works that I hope to read in the future are Twelfth Night, King Lear, Othello, and The Merchant of Venice. I can’t wait to see what more you have to say about your experiences with Shakespeare and other works that you read!
ReplyDeleteHello Shakespearean Taj, can I begin by saying how much I love your blog name! We have the same views on assigned reading material, yet you would not ever catch me reading a play by Shakespeare due to the Shakespearean language. When it comes down to your writing I believe it is brief, while still portraying bits of your personality and humor. I enjoy your honesty and your acute cliffhanger in the end to get to know you. Also with the case of being persnickety about the books you read, I think that is a habit in which the both of us will be challenged to break throughout this year.
ReplyDeleteHello! Well first off, I absolutely adore your blogger name! Shakespearean Taj is so creative and catchy, so I compliment you on that. Although I am not a Shakespeare fan, I would still love to see your growth throughout the year on your blog and different readings; I would especially like to see if there are any new books you read that are out of your comfort zone. Who knows? Maybe you will learn to love other types of literature than just the ones you have listed. I am also willing to go out of my comfort zone as well, so your blog will be of great aid to me! Lastly, I love the way you kept everything honest and demonstrated your personality, even through an academic work like this.
ReplyDeleteThe title is amazing, really made me laugh. How did your love for Shakespeare emerge? I'm really curious to know because most people I know never get into him due to the complexity of his writing style. I agree with you on the picky reader subject, I too must be familiarized with the book to really enjoy it. How many of Shakespeare's plays have you read? Are there any that you like? Dislike? These are all questions that are floating in my mind right now! I hope to get a swift response.
